Basketball is a team sport and there are 2 kinds of GOATs: Team & Player. I am a lifelong Chicago fan since the early 50's of all pro sports and M.J. is my favorite. Points are an individual's statistic, but basketball is a team sport requiring more than an individual's scoring record. 1. LeBron James 40,000 and increasing Lifetime: 2. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 38,387. 3. Karl Malone 36928 4. Kobe Bryant 33,643 5. Michael Jordan 32,292 Wilt Chamberlain: 31,419 M.J. was certainly the most exciting basketball player that ever played and most influential worldwide in merchandising; and Bird was the wisest player that ever played this team game. Jordan's 63 points was not enough to beat Bird's Celtics. However, I also saw Wilt Chamberlain play, and he is the only most dominant player in any sport, male or female, that I said: The game is not fair. Wilt is the only player the league changed the rules to give others a chance to compete with him. It is my understanding Wilt, before Kareem, was the first player to dunk free throws beginning within the free throw circle without stepping past the free throw line; so the NBA & NCAA changed the rule. As for LeBron, the league changed the defensive hand checking rules to favor the scoring for LeBron's theatrical flopping.
